MEET MAYELA CARRASCO, a talented, high-energy, inspirational dancer specializing in Afro-Brazilian dance traditions including samba no pé, capoeira, maculele and Joda de samba.  She also has experience in ballet, modern and Afro-Cuban dances. Having taught in schools and community-based organizations across the Bay Area since 2010, she is especially interested in sharing her knowledge, skills and experiences with those who most often lack the access to quality dance instruction. She is able to deliver consistent high-quality classes, working both independently and collaboratively in diverse environments. She facilitates students to increase confidence in their bodies, develop proficiency in various dance styles, while always emphasizing the historical context in which these dances were developed. As an avid student of Afro-Brazilian dance traditions, she continues to train with master teachers in the Bay Area and Brazil. Recently She gained the title of Passista do Paraiso do Tuiuti - a highly sought out position in the world of samba no pe as well as queen of Carnaval San Francisco.

dance is a way to reconnect with the physical, mental and spiritual strength within. Although dance is physical, it’s true healing power lies in what it provides for us mentally and spiritually.
